gaba for good sleepSadly, too many people suffer from pain these days. This suffering is perhaps related to the fact that we are leading much busier and over-stressed lives where it seems that we have barely enough time to do all that we must and never enough to do what we should. This business can also lead to a higher level of nervousness and an inability to relax. When both of these problems are combined together it can be very difficult to eliminate pain if you cannot effectively relax. The answer to this problem may just be the combination of GABA and Glucosamine Plus. Continue reading “GABA + Glucosamine Plus to Soothe Pain for Better Relaxation”

Top Supplements to Help Reduce Stress

nootropics to help reduce stressMost of the nootropic supplements focus on cognitive functions such as memory, learning, and reason. However, many of these supplements have also proven to be effective in the area of stress relief. Nootropics with this effect are able to improve one’s mood, make them feel relaxed, and lessen worry-related symptoms. Let’s take a closer look at how these supplements work to reduce stress and what are some of the most effective nootropics in this regard.

How Supplements Work to Reduce Stress

Stress can be caused by one or more factors: mental, physical, work, finances, or other day-to-day problems. Scientifically, stress is the result of a deficiency of GABA (gamma aninobutryic acid) which is the brain’s natural sedative. When GABA levels are low, nerve cells become overactive, and nervousness and stress result. In extreme cases, this deficiency may cause panic attacks.

Supplements that help to reduce stress therefore work by increasing the levels of GABA in the brain and therefore make one feel more relaxed and at ease. Continue reading “Top Supplements to Help Reduce Stress”

Vivazen High: Vivazen for Relaxation

vivazen for overall health and wellbeing

In today’s high-stress society, it can be hard to find time to relax. With school, work, family, and finances, constant worries can cloud even the most relaxing of moments. Luckily, there are a few supplements that can aid in relaxation.  In particular, Vivazen is noteworthy in the relaxation department.

Vivazen, formerly called Vicozen, is known to be a natural pain reliever and relaxant that can help in many ways. But what ingredients are included and how does it work?

What Ingredients are Included in Vivazen?

Vivazen is a supplement in the form of a drink. However, do not mistake this for a common energy drink that you might see in the convenience stores. This is quite a bit more effective and without all the excessive sugar and other unhealthy ingredients typically used in energy formulations.

Included in this powerful supplement are six all-natural ingredients.

  1. White Willow Bark is a plant that has been used as far back as the days of ancient Egypt. It has a mild sedative effect and is known as the world’s first aspirin (Bayer actually created a synthetic derivative of this herb) as it is effective at relieving pain.
  2. White Lotus has long been used as a healing and mildly sedative tea, producing feelings of calm, relaxation, and well being.
  3. Wild Dagga is a well-known South African plant that has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Many natives use this to help induce calm and relaxation.
  4. The most modern of the ingredients included in this supplement is called Skullcap. Skullcap has numerous anti-inflammatory properties and is capable of improving conditions ranging from insomnia, stress, and anxiety to throat infections and other issues.
  5. Kratom is a medicinal plant used by ancient Asians in teas to induce euphoric-like effects and relieve stress and pain.
  6. Boswellia Powder is a pain-killer and anti-arthritic ingredient that has been used for many centuries in Indian and Ayurvedic medicine.

Taken together, these ingredients induce relaxation and pain relief. The great thing Vivazen is that since everything included is all-natural, it is also very safe and non-toxic.

So what’s the catch? Vivazen is fairly expensive.

Make Your Own Vivazen

The official Vivzen website charges $13.98 for two shots. That is $6.99 per serving; obviously, the cost will add up quickly. Buying in bulk does not help you much either as a 24 pack will cost you $125.98, which is stilll a whopping $5.25 per serving. If you aren’t willing to part with your hard earned cash, then simply take a look at the ingredients that go into Vivazen, what the benefits are, and find alternatives for less.

So what are Vivazen’s benefits? It works as an anti-inflammatory and provides pain relief, stress relief, sedation, and improved sleep. Here are so supplements that will help you acheive all the same benefits for significantly less money.

  1. Rhodiola Rosea Supplement: This supplement provides stress and anxiety relief and was used as an ancient chinese remedy.
  2. Ashwagandha Powder: This is an ayurvedic herb that provides relief from joint pain and inflammation. It also reduces anxiety.
  3. GABA: This supplement is great for relaxation and also works as an analygesic.
  4. Melatonin: When taken as a supplement, melatonin provides mild sedation, improves your sleep quality, and provides pain relief.

What’s great about these supplements is not only do they supply all the benefits of Vivazen, they will not cost you nearly as much money.

Taking Melatonin Plus L-Theanine for Sleep

The work week can be exhausting.  Add on some school and family obligations and you may as well kiss a relaxing evening goodbye.

Not only is it difficult to get enough sleep, but finding time to adequately relax before sleep is next to impossible.  This impossibility can lead to poor sleep-quality, which can lead to increasing levels of stress and exhaustion.  L-Theanine and Melatonin show promise in securing you a solid night’s sleep.

L-Theanine for Sleep

L-Theanine, also known as just theanine, is a non essential amino acid and glutamic acid analog that is usually found in many different types of tea. It is similar in structure to glutamine which is one of the most abundant amino acids in the human body.

Theanine was originally extracted from green tea leaves and has been commonly researched for its potential sedative properties and ability to have a calming effect. Theanine is an analog of glutamate which is a critical neurotransmitter that has been implicated in improving memory and learning processes.

Theanine stimulates the GABA receptor and it is also a fat soluble nootropic. Since theanine is an analog of glutamine it has been proven to be effective for both physical stress and mental stress.

Find the correct Melatonin plus theanine dosage for quality sleep

Additionally, there have been multiple studies that show theanine is anxiolytic, which can potentially be attributed to raising dopamine levels.

In addition to helping theanine users improve their scores on tests and improve their memory, theanine can also lower blood pressure and boost health.

Reports have shown that theanine can help assist the body in improving the efficiency of the immune system by increasing antibacterial proteins and increasing the amount of fighting gamma delta T-cells.

There was one study that showed that theanine can promote memory improvement and health in cases that were related to repeated cerebral ischemia in rats. The study also showed that theanine has neuroprotective qualities and helped to promote neuronal cell health.

L-Theanine Dosage

The standard Theanine dosage is between 200mg and 400mg per day (taken in two 200mg doses throughout the day).

What About Melatonin?

Melatonin is made by the pineal gland and is a natural hormone. The pineal gland is very small and around the size of a pea, it is located in the center of the brain. The pineal gland helps to regulate sleeping cycles on 24 hour cycles which helps tell the body when it is tired and needs sleep.

Melatonin is suppressed by light and stimulated by darkness and this is the reason we usually want to sleep at night but stay awake during the day. Melatonin controls the circadian rhythm in the body which makes us feel tired and lets us know when it is time to get some rest. When there is a change in our schedule, melatonin can be disrupted and thrown off very easily. Jetlag also disrupts our normal melatonin cycles.

Melatonin supplements are available for people who would like to fix their sleeping schedule and get back on track the natural way. Some benefits of melatonin in addition to its sleep inducing properties include alleviating anxiety and depression.Melatonin affects the serotonin levels in the body which lowers the effects of depression, sadness and anxiety.

Additional studies on melatonin effects have shown that there is less of it in people who have cellular irregularities, heart problems, and joint pain. Combining theanine and melatonin can be very effective and many people have reported positive effects but taking them in combination are usually not necessary. However if you take one and it is not as effective, adding the other can sometimes work wonders.

Where to Buy Quality Melatonin and L-Theanine for Sleep

I’m sure that you’ve seen tea labeled as featuring Melatonin with L-Theanine on the shelves of your local supermarket, but what quality L-Theanine and Melatonin are you purchasing?  Many companies use shady practices in order to use lower-quality supplements.

There are a few decent companies who put their products to the test via a third-party to ensure quality. Don’t risk your health for a dirt cheap price tag. Find a store that has reasonable prices as well as third party testing.

Relieve Stress and Improve Cognition With L-Theanine

Everybody experiences days where stress levels hit their peak. It is in times like these that everyone should have access to L-theanine, which is an amino acid that can take the anxiety and stress away from a hard day.

What exactly is L-Theanine?

A precise description would say that L-Theanine (also known as just Theanine) is an amino acid and a glutamic acid analog commonly found in green tea, and is widely used as a way to relieve both mental and physical stress [1]. A more simple answer would be that L-Theanine is used around the world (whether it be through drinks such as green tea or food such as chocolate) to help people feel relaxed, yet perked up [2].

How does L-Theanine work?

L-Theanine works by crossing the blood-brain barrier, and then increases the brain’s dopamine and alpha wave levels [3], which makes the user feel calm and at ease. On top of that, Theanine does not take long to kick in, with most users feeling better within moments of the theanine being digested [4].

What else should I know about L-Theanine Benefits?

It Helps With Short-term Memory

Studies have shown that L-Theanine is also capable of improving a user’s short term memory, and can have a significant effect on the general state of mental alertness or arousal [5]. This evidence was obtained through tests which compared human electroencephalograph (EEGs) levels, which in the end showed that L-Theanine had a direct effect on brain wave levels.

It Can Increase Attention Span Levels

When tested, L-Theanine showed that at realistic dietary levels it could manage to improve alpha levels, which are known to play an important role in critical aspects of attention span levels.

Boost Mood levels and reduce anxiety

In a manner similar to caffeine [6], theanine can boost the mood of its user, and can do so without providing the excess of energy that caffeine provides.

No harmful psychological or physical effects [7]

In several tests, L-Theanine proved to have no adverse side effects on the brain of its test subjects. In fact, in some test subjects, the usage of L-Theanine proved to have neuroprotective properties, which actually helped slow the damage of afflictions such as spine and brain damage [8].

Tests and consumers from around the world have testified to the positive results of L-Theanine. With its ability to stimulate the mind while simultaneously relaxing the mind, it’s no wonder Theanine so popular.

Reduce stress and elevate your mood with NALT

Stress and low moods can create havoc in your body, brain, and life and there doesn’t seem to be any shortage of sources these days. When the body is under stress it goes into survival mode and stops performing at its best. Mental, physical, and emotional functions all suffer when stress is prevalent and the long term effects can be lethal. The body does havestress relief natural ways to combat stressful situations, however.  One of the main neurotransmitters produced in the brain that help elevate mood and improve brain function in many ways is dopamine [1]. Amongst other things, dopamine is responsible for mood, memory, body movement, and attention. While dopamine occurs naturally in the brain, you can help maximize the levels with proper supplementation. NALT (N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine) is one of the most efficient supplements for boosting dopamine production.

How does NALT work?

NALT is a more bioavailable derivative of l-tyrosine, a non-essential amino acid that can be taken in through food or synthesized by the body [2]. NALT works by increasing neurotransmitter levels in the brain, primarily the important neurotransmitter mentioned above: dopamine.  Dopamine controls a wide range of functions in the brain, but primarily gives you an overall sense of wellbeing. Suboptimal levels of dopamine can adversely affect your brain’s reward system and leave you feeling down or depressed. In fact, severe dopamine deficiency is linked to serious medical conditions [1]. Stress also reduces the body’s ability to synthesize chemicals appropriately, so during periods of stress all the effects of deficiencies in essential neurotransmitters like dopamine can be magnified, causing you to feel even more stressed out, overwhelmed, and helpless.

What are the benefits of NALT?

Since NALT promotes the formation of dopamine in the brain, it’s a popular supplement in the health community for naturally elevating mood. Users of NALT report a sense of attentive relaxation, a general sense of well being or feeling good and an ability to focus more intently on and enjoy projects or tasks that they may not have been able to before (this could be attributed to an increase in dopamine since dopamine is an important part of the brain’s reward mechanism). The positive effects of NALT supplementation are further enhanced when stressful conditions arise. As you can imagine, being able to relax and not overreact when you are under emotional or physical stress is very valuable. You can think more clearly, plan out your next actions more effectively, and cope with situations better. Through the elevation of dopamine and other chemicals in the brain, NALT supplementation may help improve memory and mental performance under stressful situations like fatigue, times of grief , prolonged work, or sleep deprivation.

How should you take NALT?

Recommended dosages of quality NALT products begin between 100-150mg/day and increase up to 500mg/day depending on your stress levels and desired results. Since NALT affects dopamine levels, it’s imperative that you consult with your doctor before beginning a regimen of tyrosine, especially if you are already on any kind of medication to treat depression.

Stress Relief with GABA Supplementation

Nearly everyone experiences stressful circumstances from time to time.  We are constantly looking for new ways to relieve ourselves from stress and increase the quality of our lives. A great and natural way to address this very common issue is Gamma-Aminobutric Acid (GABA).

What is GABA?stress relief

GABA is produced in the human brain from glutamine and glucose. GABA is known for being a calming amino acid and a natural regulator of nervous system excitement. It significantly helps balance your mind. When in a situation that may prove to be anxious or frightening, GABA eases your mind as well as your thought process making it easier for you to concentrate. It also comes to the rescue when you need to sleep. GABA will help “shut off” a restless mind when your body senses that it’s time to rest. After the GABA releases you should notice that your dreams are much more vivid than usual, and you will be able to enhance your sleep-cycle, which in turn will increase the amount of energy you have the next day.  The healthy sleep that you fall into will considerably reduce your stress level for when you wake up.

This naturally produced amino acid has a very high rate of effectiveness without any side effects. Unfortunately people suffering from anxiety, depression and panic disorders do not usually produce enough GABA for their bodies to function properly, and help them deal with stressful situations when they arise. These people may need an outside source to supply them with this very useful amino acid. The quality of your life will noticeably increase and you will tend to feel more alive.

GABA for Stress Relief

GABA supplements will help with your stress, and anxiety issues, providing you with higher quality of life and less stress. When GABA is released, its effects are noticed almost immediately. In some instances you may even achieve the state of mental euphoria.

Unplug and Relieve Stress with DHEA

When is the last time you unplugged? Very few people can honestly say they make a habit out of being able to disconnect from the constant action in their lives. We may think that stress comes from work, kids or a never-ending list of commitments. Biologically, however, what you perceive as stress and how your body copes is all the result of hormones. When you experience a stressful situation, hormones are released by the adrenal glands. The infamous fight-or-flightrelieve stress response is the result of a hormonal change in your body when you experience stress. Two important hormones released by your body under stressful conditions are cortisol and DHEA. These two hormones balance out in your body to help you cope with stress. The interesting thing is that while the sources of our stress today aren’t as lethal as they were to our ancestors, the lower, chronic stress can be more harmful over time. Many times, the mix of cortisol and DHEA becomes skewed and the balance shifts toward cortisol. When this happens, the effects of cortisol can be overwhelming. When this happens, supplementing with DHEA can help you restore balance to your body and life.

What is DHEA?

If you were asked to name a hormone, DHEA probably wouldn’t be the first one to come to mind. It may not even be in your top three. But DHEA is actually the body’s most common hormone. It’s been referred to as the “mother of all hormones”, the “fountain of youth hormone” and the “master hormone”.[1] These bold nicknames were given because DHEA is very important. DHEA plays a role in many critical bodily functions. These include:

  • Stress management
  • Testosterone production
  • Estrogen production
  • Immune system support
  • Skin health
  • Bone health
  • Fat metabolism

The flip side of all these benefits is that cortisol, the other hormone released under stress negatively impacts almost all of the areas above.

DHEA for Stress Reduction

Members of the military are among the few groups that still deal with the high levels of primal stress our ancestors were familiar with. In fact, these experiences are simulated in training, which makes them the perfect group for stress research. In a study published in The Archives of General Psychiatry, 25 military personnel were observed during survival school. The researchers tested the DHEA and cortisol levels of the participants before training as a baseline and then again immediately after a stressful phase. The researchers found that the men with higher DHEA/cortisol ratios felt less impact from the stress than the men with higher cortisol and lower DHEA. They concluded that supplementing with DHEA to balance out the cortisol/DHEA ratio could help have a protective effect against stress.[2] So what does all this mean to you? It means that if you find yourself under a lot of stress, you could be doing unnecessary harm to your body and mind. Getting some extra DHEA with supplements is a good way to help balance out your body’s hormones and reduce the impact of the stress in your life.  Sources [1] [2]

L-theanine for Anxiety

I am on my third month of L-theanine usage and now find it indispensable. By nature I am internally extremely anxious.stress supplements

I worry too much when I drive, I’m a helicopter, overly safety conscious dad with my child and routinely do things like panic at the checkout to the point of my heart racing because my wallet was in a different pocket in my cargo pants and I have a mini panic attack while I’m checking successive pockets.

L-Theanine Effects

The first day I had theanine supplement was excellent, I had to drive in a busy,  unfamiliar section of the city, in the rain and on a tight schedule, normally this would have me stuck in my lane, panicking about each parked car I had to negotiate around and missing opportunities to change lanes and go through signals out of caution with annoyed drivers behind me but instead found myself aware of all the traffic around me , not sweating like I normally would, cruising into the correct lane and with no issue finding my destination. I take theanine with my tea or coffee (stirred into a little boiling water at the bottom of the cup before the rest goes in) and find I am mentally sharp, quick to respond but free of the jittery panic that coffee can normally produce. I ensure I have the theanine I have put into capsules in a jar in my work bag and I keep my bag of loose powder right next to the kettle so I can never forget to have it in the morning with my drink. My dad tends towards anxiety just like I do and based on observing the change in me has ordered his own supply, I haven’t seen my father this cheery before or being such a relaxed grandfather to my daughter, she has gone from avoiding him because of his fixed furrowed brow to running and throwing her arms around his knees!

The effects of theanine have only stacked and multiplied over time, not only am I less anxious in a given moment, I now carry less anxiety because over the previous week I will have acted more calmly and confidently in all manner of situations and thus I have contentment about how I am conducting myself instead of mild regret and the anxious ball of stress I was in the past before I started having L-theanine daily.

With theanine, I had the benefit of improved sleep. This was highly unexpected but greatly enjoyed. For the last two years I have taken either melatonin or valerian sleep aids which were indeed effective but perhaps not ideal for years of supplementation, its now two months since I needed to take either, the theanine appears to deepen my sleep and ensure I have no worry ticking over in my head when I hit the sack, it’s a keeper!
